Under Construction

A message from Fat Chucky the Armourer

Greetings and salutations fellow fencers (or anybody else who is looking),

I think it might be a good idea to introduce myself because, if you have already read "The Invasion of the Chucky", you might have got the wrong idea about me. I have to explain, Michael exaggerated a bit in that little story, I don't really have obsidian eyes.(Depends on the moon! - Ed.)

I'm now a third year computer and elctronic systems student hoping to get a little BEng after my name soon. So hints on study techniques (not just telling me to study)(Chucky???Study??? - Ed.) would be appreciated. I'll have been fencing for two years by mid october '99 and can't get enough, and I became armourer for strathclyde about 16 months ago. Since then I've only mauled three or four people and fixed a large number of weapons, so I'm feeling quite proud of myself.

Enough, more about the club.

As you probably already know there is a cupboard, and yes, it is my domain. There is quite a lot of stuff in there too (taking the inventory was great!), so there is plenty of kit to be shared out to prospective beginners, forgetful people, or cheapskates who haven't got round to buying their own kit yet, you know who you are, James.(Down boy, good Chucky - Ed.)

There isn't really much I can tell you about armoury that wouldn't bore you to tears so here's a quick question and answer thingy with the two most asked questions:

Q. My weapon is bent, what do I do?
A. Rub it briskly until it becomes warm and straighten it gently.

Q. My tip is sticky, and I'm not getting my hits registered.
A. You are probably not cleaning properly.Insert a cotton bud into your tip and get some of the grott out. Please don't try to use any standard lubricant, 'cos it'll mess things up.

Basicly, if there is something wrong with club equipment, put it in the repairs box with a quick description of the problem. If it's your own equipment, cross my palm with sufficent silver and I'll fix it. for the nearest convenient time.

For those wanting to learn more about armoury or the equipement available just send an e-mail to me charles.mcbrien@strath.ac.uk subject="armoury" and I'll try to answer it on these pages.

Failing that, if people want "how to"s I'll write them too if subjects are supplied.

Good fencing,

Fat Chucky
